Wordpress 3.0- Has a CMS Finally Arrived?

Date Added: July 13, 2011 07:24:48 AM

Wordpress has been touted as a blog platform and not a proper CMS. Joomla and Drupal fans have been lambasting at the talks of Wordpress posing as a CMS. Well, Wordpress has tried to put to rest a lot of such discussions with the Wordpress 3.0x out. We’d be touching upon why Wordpress 3.0 has promised to become a proper CMS.

Twenty 10 Theme

Gone are the days of Kubric and other default themes. The latest default theme that comes installed with Wordpress is Twenty10. It’s out of the box and has all the most popular CMS features available in the market at the time of Wordpress 3.0 release. This seems to be a great start for WordPress 3.0 to compete with the CMS market.

Change Styles Without CSS

Earlier versions of Wordpress required you to have some working knowledge of CSS just to do simple things, such as, changing header image or background colours. Well, even though that’s not rocket science for most technical users, it can be a huge pain for regular non-technical guys. And to keep in mind that most Wordpress users use it for blogging and are not designers makes it even more important that changing simple appearance of your site should be a breeze. Wordpress 3.0 allows changing simple things right from the dashboard.

Help Features

Wordpress 3.0 boasts of a feature that was missing in previous feature. This feature is the Help tab now available in the dashboard. The Help tab connects users to help sections and forums. This is definitely a welcome feature from Wordpress 3.0.

Multiple Blogs with Wordpress 3.0

If you have been tuned in to Wordpress development so far you’d know about Wordpress MU, which is Word press’s way of building multiple blogs from same interface. That was a very redundant way of dong things and huge setback from eth way regular CMS do things.

Wordpress 3.0 addressed this issue big time. Even though managing multiple blogs was just a matter of changing a single line of code in code files, Wordpress knew their users are mostly regular guys with no PHP knowledge. So, they have integrated the option right there in the dashboard.

If you are still thinking that Wordpress 3.0 still falls short of regular CMS options in the market just checkout the price- free! Yes, Wordpress is free to use and even the customization costs peanuts compared to other CMS. With advance options, such as, custom posts, option of static or dynamic front page, multiple blogs option, and unlimited scalability makes Wordpress 3.0 not just an advance CMS but actually a game changer in CMS scene.
